Intersectional experiences of violence among homeless men from a phenomenological perspective

This study explores the experiences of violence experienced by homeless men from a phenomenological perspective with an intersectional and gender approach. Through semi-structured interviews conducted in the city of Jaén and analyzed using Colaizzi's phenomenological method, different forms of violence—physical, symbolic, structural, and institutional—were identified in their daily lives. The findings reveal a persistent coexistence with insecurity and violence and demonstrate how dimensions such as gender, age, origin, and health status influence how these forms of violence are perceived, experienced, and confronted. These results underscore the urgent need for public policies that address these realities in a comprehensive and situated manner and highlight the role of social work in designing interventions that are sensitive to the dignity, human rights, and complexity of the life trajectories of homeless people.
