Abstract

Introduction: Practical training in pediatrics is a fundamental component of nursing education, as it enables students to integrate theoretical knowledge with real clinical experiences, strengthening the competencies required for the effective application of the Nursing Care Process (NCP).

Objective: To evaluate the impact of practical training in pediatrics on the application of the Nursing Care Process among nursing students.

Methodology: A quantitative study with a non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive-correlational design was conducted. The sample consisted of 50 nursing students who completed pediatric clinical practice. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and observation guides administered before and after the practical training. The information was analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics.

Results: The findings revealed a significant improvement in theoretical knowledge of the Nursing Care Process, practical application of its stages, and students’ confidence in providing pediatric care. Furthermore, improvements were observed in competencies related to patient assessment, nursing diagnosis, care planning, intervention implementation, and evaluation of outcomes.

Conclusions: Practical training in pediatrics has a positive impact on the application of the Nursing Care Process, strengthening clinical competencies, critical thinking, and professional confidence among nursing students. These findings highlight the importance of supervised clinical experiences in preparing future nursing professionals to provide safe, comprehensive, and patient-centered care.
