The training in Roman law for future legal professionals must be conceived as the epistemological foundation for the development of contemporary legal thought. Therefore, the effective incorporation of cognitive strategies aligned with the new paradigms of teaching and learning Roman legal knowledge constitutes the main challenge for this discipline. In this regard, this research aims to establish cognitive strategies within the process of Roman law education as a means to update, refine, and ensure the curricular relevance of Roman law instruction in the current legal education of lawyers, through a methodology that integrates a qualitative analysis of the region’s major curricula, the classical principles of the educational process, and the methods specific to legal science—particularly the historical-logical, legal-theoretical, and exegetical-analytical approaches. This made it possible to establish the didactic, pedagogical, and Roman law foundations of the teaching-learning process, as well as the integral actions of awareness-raising, attention, acquisition, personalization, monitoring, retrieval, and transfer, as the basis for the stated cognitive strategies.
