This study aims to analyze the scientific communication competence of university students through a questionnaire designed to assess how they perceive, practice, and value this competence within the framework of open science and digital environments that are reshaping the production and socialization of knowledge. The methodological approach is quantitative and instrumental, employing statistical techniques to evaluate the instrument’s validity and reliability. The sample consisted of 1,261 students from a Peruvian public university who responded to items related to academic dissemination, social outreach, and critical appropriation of science. The results demonstrate construct validity and high internal consistency of the questionnaire, confirming its suitability for measuring scientific communication competence. Additionally, the study identified both strengths and limitations in students’ appropriation and translation of scientific knowledge. In summary, scientific communication is essential for academic and civic development, and having a valid and reliable instrument supports the design of policies and practices that foster knowledge democratization and critical student participation.
