Resumo

In the labor market, creative thinking is an essential skill for employers, as it enables the resolution of complex problems, innovation, and the generation of new ideas. This research examines the role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) tools as a multidimensional factor that rethinks teaching and learning processes in higher education. Through a descriptive-correlative study applied to a sample of 2,424 students, it was determined that the majority considers the use of these AI tools to develop creative thinking, although this impact varies according to the professional field of knowledge or faculty. Likewise, the research reveals a positive association between the use of AI tools, the development of creative thinking, and the improvement of academic performance. A significant contribution of this study is the empirical evidence that creative thinking, enhanced by AI tools, acts as a relevant variable for students' academic success. Finally, the research establishes a novel functional taxonomy of AI tools, based on the strength of association with creative thinking development and academic performance improvement:1)Very Strong Impact: AI tools for artistic and visual creation that allow for the externalization of abstract concepts;2)Strong Impact: AI tools for programming, music, and language learning, which serve as a nexus between the idea and technical execution; Moderate-Strong Impact: AI tools oriented toward the organization, management, and synthesis of academic information.
