The anti-gender discourse in education in Spain

An analysis of #pinparental

Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the mobilization of anti-gender discourse through the hashtag #pinparental on the digital platform X. Based on the knowledge provided by specialized research on anti-gender movements, this study aims to detect how a discursive framework contrary to gender equality, feminism and diversity is constructed and promoted through this digital platform with repercussions on the configuration of educational policies in the Spanish context. The results obtained identify social actors that promote this type of discourse through the digital platform, the representation of the political debate on the application of the so-called parental pin through the discourses that use this label and together with other labels that accompany the main one, as well as the categories of analysis that have been used to understand in greater detail the expansion of the anti-gender discourse in the educational field.

Alícia Villar-Aguilés, Universitat de València

Doctora en Sociología, especializada en sociología de la educación y género. Profesora Titular en la Universitat de València (UV), Departamento de Sociología y Antropología Social. Investigadora en el Instituto Universitario de Creatividad e Innovaciones Educativas (UV). Es delegada de la rectora en trayectorias académicas y asesora en la Unidad de Igualdad (UV) en los planes de igualdad. Ha dirigido y participado en proyectos de investigación sobre decisiones educativas, trayectorias y transiciones educativas-profesionales, abandono y estudiantes universitarios. Más recientemente investiga sobre la expansión del discurso antifeminista y movimientos anti-género.

Mar Venegas, Universidad de Granada

Doctora en Sociología, especializada en sociología de la educación y género. Profesora Titular en la Universidad de Granada (UGR), Departamento de Sociología. Investigadora en el Instituto Universitario de Investigaciones de Estudios de las Mujeres y de Género. Actualmente es vicerrectora de Igualdad, Inclusión y Compromiso social (UGR). Ha dirigido varios proyectos de investigación sobre educación, género y sexualidad. Ha publicado numerosos trabajos sobre coeducación y relaciones afectivosexuales en adolescentes. También ha publicado artículos sobre movimientos anti-género.
